Today marks a day that our country stops to pay notice to a man that saw more than the eye can see. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. saw potential in the human race. He saw a world in which all races can be in community with each other, and are acknowledged as equal. Today you will see many stories on the television, quotes on Twitter, Facebook posts, and acknowledgements in public places to pay respect to this great man. Sometimes we can get in the habit of letting the past, be the past. However, Dr. King’s teachings and his leadership can be applicable to our lives today.
So what can event professionals learn from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.? I believe when people like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. come into our lives, everyone needs to pay attention. Dr. King had many treasures to share, and if we can truly capture them, and practice them, our world will continue to flourish.
This quote by Dr. King makes me really tap into what my purpose is as an event professional. What am I doing for others? What are you doing for others? As event professionals we have a unique talent of being highly resourceful to produce experiential events for many different kinds of people. The way we personally interact with our clients, our colleagues, and our attendees, can make more of an impact than the event itself. Have you ever gotten a smile from someone that just made your day? Or has anyone ever given you a small token of appreciation that to this day, you immediately think of? It doesn’t take much to do something for others. This week, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., do something for someone in need. Send your client words of encouragement, or just give someone a smile. Doing so will bring humanity one step closer to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream.
Connect and share with me how you did something for someone else this week, by sharing in the comments below!
